We are delighted to announce that a new supermarket will open at Jachthaven Biesbosch this spring after formal contracts were signed between the marina and entrepreneur Koen van Grootel.
The new 700sqft Spar supermarket will service marina berth holders, residents and tourists arriving by boat and road. The store will be built in the same modular system that is already in place at the western end of the marina.
This supermarket has been the missing piece in our long term development of Jachthaven Biesbosch so we're delighted that this has been finalised.
Entrepreneur Koen van Grootel will operate the Spar having already operated 10 other similar branches other tourist areas and recreation parks. "We believe in the marina and the village. Day tourism and the 1400 marina berths offer great opportunities for a supermarket.", Koen commented.
The news was also positively received by other local business owners including Brenner Verhagen who owns and operates Het Witte Huis restaurant and Sloop hire service at the marina. "This is what we have missed for years. Many people who come here by boat do not have a means of transport, but have to go to Made to do their shopping. Now they are no longer dependent on it."
The supermarket is expected to open in May with opening times from 8am to 6pm, with later opening hours during the peak season. In the first instance, it is expected that the store will close during the winter, but operator Koen van Grootel is open to the idea of extending the hours, saying "...we look at that at the end of the summer season. If the port continues to develop, it may be possible to remain open in the winter months. "
